FAQ

  • What if I missed the start date for a class?
No worries! You can register at any time and start even after the official date has passed! If the class you want is already full, you will be placed on a wait list and I will reach out as soon as I have a spot for you.
  • Is this art therapy for neuro-divergent people?
No! I am not an art therapist and classes are not exclusively limited to neuro-divergence - all populations are welcome! I am an artist, educator and mother who has personal experience with supporting neuro-diversity. Through years of therapy I have learned and practiced numerous strategies that allow me to have an inclusive approach to neuro-diversity to favor positive outcomes in the studio.
  • Do I need to buy all of my art supplies and materials myself?
No! I want to avoid participants spending money on expensive supplies. I provide everything you need and the cost is included in the price of the classes. You are responsible for bringing: - a smock or paintings clothes - curiosity and calmness - whole body listening - dexterity to hold a pencil/paintbrush - creativity and joyfulness!
  • My child is registered for a class, can I stay and watch?
No. Unfortunately, you cannot stay and watch. For one, the studio is not big enough to accommodate so many people at once. Also, I have found that the children are more able to be fully present when parents aren't around. However, if your child is nervous and would like to meet me and come visit the studio prior to the first class, I am happy to accommodate that need. Please reach out to me and we will arrange a time to meet :)
  • Where are classes held?
All classes are held in my bright 2nd-floor home-studio in the south-west burrough of Montreal, a few streets from Monk Metro station (green line).
  • How can I pay for my classes?
Payments can be made in cash or by e-transfer to karine@karinebassal.com
  • How many students are in every class?
There is a maximum of 5 students per class.
  • Are the classes only for neuro-divergent participants?
No! For the moment, classes are not exclusively limited to neuro-divergence. All are welcome and classes are tailored to the needs of each small group (max 5 students). This may change in the future if there is enough demand!
  • Is the studio wheelchair accessible?
No. Unfortunately, the studio is on the 2nd floor and there is no elevator. It is not accessible to people with reduced mobility. I am hoping for an accessible space for all in the future. Stay tuned!
  • What is your background?
I have a Masters in Art Education, a Bachelors in Art History and 35 years experience with oil paints. I have been teaching in some form or other for over a decade.
  • Oil paint is toxic, should I be worried?
Oil paint is indeed toxic. It should not be ingested in any way and contact with skin should be limited. Every precaution is taken in my studio to ensure safe and proper use of paint supplies. Disposable gloves are provided and there is a sink in the studio to ensure proper hand-washing. If your child has a tendency to absent-mindedly put their hands or objects in their mouth, this may not be a good fit for them.
